$10,000 SEO Contest - War of the SEOs

It’s been quite some time since anything seo related made some headline news.
The last big contest was Search Guild’s nigritude ultramarine contest.
Everything seemed to have ended after that. Until now that is!

John Scott from v7 Networks announced an upcoming seo contest on 12-20-2005 which kicked off a snowball that won’t stop rolling and growing.
First Greg Boser tried to hijack and destroy the contest by offering more money for using the keywords of the contest and “not” linking to v7n as it was part of the original requirement. Read his post and some comments on Web Guerilla where he is trying to play hero of some sort. His friends then offered their own contributions which pumped up his prize money.
They were trying to keep contestants from complying with the now adjusted link requirements that originally asked for a link from the site enterting the contest. A link into a page on v7N.
Instead they asked the contestants to link to Matt Cutts’ Blog instead as if Matt needed or cared about any more backlinks.
What good happened afterwards is that others have added to John’s pot of gold:

Bruce Stone from Skaffe and Sporge added $1k prize money for the winner and this gentleman an iPod.

Shoe Money, a friend of mine and John’s has donated $2k in addition and now the prize money has gone up to $4,000 for the winner.
Where Greg, Oilman and Grehan stand is not quite clear, but no one really cares
So basically here are some of the rules:
Anything goes, anything goes, anything goes
On the 15th there will be an announcement of the official keyphrase.
The contest will be officially over on May 15, 2006.
But since we can’t control the actions and whatever else Greg Boser, Oilman and Mike Grehan who are trying hard to get as much attention as the original idea of John’s is receiving more and more each day.
The anticipation is high! Anyone can enter. You can enter with as many pages as you like.
Do you have some skills?
Then go ahead and get ready for the Biggest SEO Contest in history!!
Good luck winning the grandprize of at least $4,000
And the keyterm to fight over for the next 4 months is …

It’s nice to see an honest interpretation of these events.
Good Job!
Thanks, I was a little confused at first on what exactly Greg had the nerve to come up with. Basically he wanted to steal the contest and then look like a hero to Matt Cutts. How truly pathetic. People love this contest … and unless they change the requirements, I guess some brownnoser out there will win Greg’s, Oil’s and Michael’s cash as well ![]()
Great run down on the contest! I’m glad to see the REAL truth getting out there and being heard. Only question is What do I have to do to get a link on this blog
