The future for forums … I don’t see it!

Posted at 11:51 pm under Search Engine and Directory stuff

I’ve just noticed that the Stickam forum has virtually no posts, and look how popular Stickam is.
I then go to Shoemoney’s forums and notice

due to lack of interest this forum is disabled.

I think that in the future, people will not have interest in forums. Chat, webcam chat, and everything fast pace will take over. Forums are slow and not as interactive as chat.
People are getting used to quick results, and forums don’t bring them.
Also, when I look at digitalpoint, I see that the good old threads are buried and cheapened new versions of them arise daily.

I see no future for forums except a few good ones.

I may be wrong, but it seems people are more interested in blogging on their own blog space and then hang out in chat somewhere to interact.
Signature links in forums once were valuable and are still to some degree. But that will not keep people coming the way it used to.
Having said this, I am seriously thinking about killing my forum since I no longer see a value in it.
Maybe I will transfer it to another domain and sell it. Maybe I will close it and leave the threads up as they are. Who knows …

If someone comes along to help me revive it, I may give it another shot, but then the question of purpose and usefulness will arise.
So as far as I am concerned, after 2 years … my efforts are done.

What can I say … I love my blog. And when I want to interact, I go on someone else’s forum and leave when I’m done.
